St Philip South
Indar Weir serves Barbados as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Security and was elected Member of Parliament for St Philip South in 2018 and 2022. His leadership is defined by a clear national mission: strengthening food security, building climate resilience, and ensuring that agriculture remains a viable and modern pillar of the economy.
He holds an Executive Master of Business Administration from the Cave Hill School of Business, alongside professional certifications in organisational development and training. His professional background includes entrepreneurship and strategic management, including leadership of the Indar Weir Travel Centre. He has also served at the highest levels of regional and international aviation governance, including on the Joint Executive Committee of the International Air Transport Association and as a Regional Director on the Board of the United Federation of Travel Agents’ Associations.
Since his election to Parliament in 2018, Indar Weir has advanced a reform focused agricultural agenda centred on modernisation, import substitution, and climate adaptation. His work includes the promotion of protected agriculture, improved planting material systems, precision and digital agriculture, and stronger institutional support for farmers and agro processors.
Regionally, he has served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Inter American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture and chaired CARICOM COTED meetings on Agriculture, driving collective regional responses to food security challenges. His leadership style is practical, consultative, and firmly people centred, focused on strengthening national resilience and opportunity.
